A few days ago, I was trying to set up a wireless hotspot in the, Universidad Valle del Momboy , specifictly in the Engineering School, (thats the university I go to). It took me some days because, I had to prepare a web server (apache2),
dhcp server and NoCatSplash a very simple captive portal but I had some problems with the sources,(that was the hardest part), so looking up in google found nocatsplash.deb , since I use debian, it was like a miracle, dpkg -i nocatsplash.deb and voila, it worked, although, I have a little problem with iptables (.sh solves the problem), its fine, if you want somethig simple use it. The Engineering School, has about 500 students, so for the time, it will do, I’m using buffalo wireless routers, runing dd-wrt, they work excellent, I’m using 3 to cover the whole school, they are configured to work in WDS to expand range.
Hope it’s useful.
